This week we came across a pair of Nike Court Legacy, making it a great time to review its features. This sneaker was first released in 2022 , as a budget athletic shoe for everyday use. It is part of the “Court” series from Nike that was built on tennis shoes heritage and also includes the Court Vision and Court Royale 2, all retailing under $70 (in 2023). Given its clean looks and affordable price (initially was $60) it was an instant hit with those looking for a cheaper alternative to the Nike Killshot 2 , the Cortez or Pegasus 83. It is also one of the styles that are part of the Next Nature series where Nike is using at least 20% recycled materials by weight. Several colorways have been introduced since its release, with the white/desert ochre and black being one of the most popular. We got one of these when it was re-stocked in 2023.

Do Nike Court Legacy Court Run Big or Small

Despite being a 2022 design, the Nike Court Legacy sneaker follows the traditional classic slim, narrow silhouette of the 80’s classics. They run true to size but only for those with narrow feet. Most folks will want to go half a size up on these. They also need a bit of break in , given the upper leather construction and the flat sole. As you’d expect from a Nike shoe, if you get your size right , they feel quite comfortable and plushy from the get go, despite the lack of any advanced cushioning technology. If not sure about your size you can always check out our Nike shoes size chart

Upper

The upper is made of a pebbled synthetic leather upper that is likely to include some recycled materials. It will get creased pretty quick but personally that did not bother me. It is a material that feels great and despite being synthetic it is quite durable. The lack of any perforations makes this sneaker more fit for the fall or spring seasons. We tested these for the Nike Court Review in October and they felt great. The piece of design that makes this model distinct from the other Court sneakers is the 360 degrees layer of canvas that goes on top of the vulcanized sole, it is a nice touch that looks great especially in this colorway. The Swoosh logo and the tongue and heel branding complete this simple, yet stylish design.

Sole Unit

The sole unit of the Nike Court Legacy is a simple setup that you’d expect from a shoe in this price range. It is a flat sole that is very similar to what you are used to seeing at Vans or Converse sneakers, even more similar to the latter given the black stripe that goes along the midsole. Since there is no significant heel to toe drop and there is no EVA or any other cushioning in the midsole the long term arch support is quite limited. The shoe features a non removable EVA insole that tends to wear out after a while as well as chambers in the rubber midsole, both being responsible for the cushioning of this shoe in the sole unit.  The flat sole makes these a viable option for those into skateboarding, at least when doing it casually. This is also because they provide good stability and they have a durable, vulcanized sole. The herringbone pattern is quite simple but effective in providing a good grip and traction which is suitable even for weightlifting.

Are Nike Court Legacy Running Shoes?

The Nike Court Legacy is not great for running given its flat sole without a significant heel to toe drop that would help with the long distance support.

Are Nike Court Legacy Comfortable?

This is a comfortable sneaker for day to day activities , being easy to match with any attire. The insole EVA and the padding around the heel area provide a plushy feel but for those looking for a supportive shoe while standing up for hours these will not do it.

Bottom Line

The Nike Court Legacy is an excellent everyday sneaker for those looking for a shoe that will not break the bank and can be used almost for any day to day activities. It is not a speciality running or gym shoe but it is still quite versatile and easy to match with any casual attire. At $70 it offers a great value, being a stylish, comfortable and durable shoe.It is available in sizes for the whole family, with even a Lift Platform version being available for the ladies. Given its success since its release it is very likely to continue seeing this model around for a long time in countless colorways. If still in doubt and want to check for alternatives, the Adidas VL Court 3.0 , the Grand Court 2.o or  Adidas Court Tourino are certainly worth a look.
