The adidas Retropy F2, one of the latest from the brand, is the subject of our sneaker review this week. It was released as part of the summer of 2022 lineup, being a modern design with retro accents. This comes a year after Adidas introduced the Retropy E5, a similar sneaker which followed the same idea while using the BOOST midsole. With the release of the E5 it seems like the brand may want to create a series of modern athletic sneakers with retro vibes.
How They Fit
From the large array of colorways released this year we picked the green, red and white, by far our favorite, one very similar with the Run 70’s we reviewed recently. Out of the box it looks stylish and it feels like a pretty solid shoe. It fits a bit small in the toe box area, especially if you have a bit wider feet like I do. So I would suggest going a half size up on these just to be on the safe side. If still unsure about the size you need you can check out our Adidas sizing chart here. They feel a bit heavy, mainly due to the oversized EVA midsole that in exchange can offer some good support and surely add durability to the shoe.
Upper
The adidas Retropy F2 is made of a combination of mesh with suede overlays, hence the retro vibes. The mesh material is made of recyclable materials from production and post consumer household waste, making it part of adidas action to protect the environment. The mesh is very breathable and feels like it will last. The tongue and the heel are lightly padded for some nice cushioning while the tongue is pretty standard, without any side straps to hold it in place. The leather stripes along with the suede overlays blend nicely with the mesh for a solid, stylish design. The upper construction makes it a great choice for warm summer days but not only.
Sole Unit
The sole unit is made of an engineered EVA material in white which is a move away from the BOOST midsole we’ve seen on the E5. It is a midsole that seems a bit stiff as it’s not that flexible and, as mentioned above, it also adds some weight to the shoe. On top of the midsole is a removable EVA insole that adds a bit of extra cushioning and bounce return. What we came to notice about this shoe during our adidas Retropy F2 review is that they are mainly made for casual wear and not much for anything else, except maybe some light gyms given that they offer some good balance and arch support. For those looking for a pair of shoes to wear for long hours these will do great.
Bottom Line
All in all , to conclude our adidas Retropy F2 review, this is a stylish shoe that is great for everyday use. At a retail price of $90 it offers a great value, being a shoe that will last. There are a lot of colorways available that you can choose from to fit with your style. If you’re looking for a modern sneaker with retro vibes this is surely one to consider. If still not convinced you can check out another retro spin-off , the New Balance 327.
