This week we take a look and review the features of another popular sneaker released recently, the adidas Hoops 3.0 Mid. This model is part of a series that has been on the market for several years in both bid and low silhouettes. It is a budget all around athletic shoe that retails for $70. The idea behind this sneaker was to offer a new take on the retro styles of the 80’s. The Top Ten and the Forum are just two examples of these retros that served as inspiration and in essence this sneaker is a nice, cheaper alternative. Adidas, much like the other big names in the footwear industry created a whole line of sneakers that retail under $80 that include the Run 70’s , the Adidas Daily 3.0 and the adidas Pro Model low. The Adidas Hoops 3.0 is for the brand what the Court Vision is for Nike, essentially a retro inspired shoe at an affordable price.
How They Fit
The pair we got is the black and gum one, a 2022 release that we found on sale recently. At a first look the shoes look stylish with a strong retro vibe. They are a bit heavy which is understandable given that the pair we got is all leather upper. They fit true to size but they are a bit narrow which means that a bit of a break in time may be needed for some. For a more info about Adidas shoes sizing you can check out this chart.
Upper
The upper of the adidas Hoops 3.0 Mid is made of leather. Adidas advertises these as both real and synthetic leather but the ones we got seems to be more of the latter. Given the price point that does not bother me. There are a few perforations in the toe box area which means that the ventilation is quite limited. This makes them a good choice in the cold season and not as much when the weather is warm. As we did this adidas Hoops 3.0 Mid review they strike us as the perfect go to school shoe as it is built like a basketball shoe but looks great as a casual one. This makes it a very versatile shoe and given its price tag it is an excellent value. The elongated tongue has foam exposed, a retro design signature and the collar has plenty of cushioning for heel support but also to trap the body heat in.
Sole Unit
The sole unit of the Adidas Hoops 3.0 is made of a rubber cupsole with cushioning provided by an EVA midsole and a removable insole. It is the basic setup from the retros in the 80’s which means that you do not get the latest bouncy technology from Adidas. If you would have to stand up in these for hours you may feel the pain after a while but for casual wear they are still great. The rubber outsole has a classic pattern for basic traction and it does a good job, again for the price point. You can actually play basketball in these although your feet may get sweaty if playing indoors or out in the heat.
Are Adidas Hoops 3.0 good for basketball?
The Adidas Hoops 3.0 is built like a basketball shoe and can be used for occasional sporting activities, both on and off the court. The sole unit is designed with a rubber cupsole, EVA midsole, and a removable insole, which provides basic traction suitable for playing basketball. So, while they can be used for basketball, they do not offer the latest technology for extended play.
Are Adidas Hoops 3.0 comfortable?
The Adidas Hoops 3.0 are built as a 80’s sneaker so they offer basic comfort. They do not provide arch support for long hours of standing up. Also the cushioning in the sole unit is quite basic. These are best for those in need for an everyday sneaker that they can take anywhere but they do not have to stand up in all day. That is why it is highly recommended for kids in school given that they are also quite versatile.
Bottom Line
All in all, to conclude our Adidas Hoops 3.0 review, this is an excellent alternative to the more expensive retro sneakers out there. It is a versatile shoe that you can wear casually but also for occasional sporting activities, on and off the court. It comes in a low version as well which is more suitable for the warm season. It is a great back to school shoe that will not break the bank and will be very useful over time.
